ChatGPT Again? Lessons for Education

By Naomi S. Baron

ChatGPT pushes the boundaries for AI tools generating or editing text. In the process, it challenges educators and students to puzzle out where its use is or is not appropriate. Linguist Naomi S. Baron takes on the dual questions of how the bot potentially undermines thinking and what kind of guidance we might offer for deciding when and how to invoke ChatGPT for written work.

When a technology is new, would-be users understandably struggle to make sense of its perils or powers. Take the telephone, which arrived on the public scene in 1876. Less than twenty years on, a newspaper editor warned “not to converse by phone with ill persons for fear of contracting contagious diseases.”I And in 1905, a woman in Columbus, Indiana, wanted a telephone installed at the grave of a dead relative, looking to conveniently communicate with the dearly departed.II In both cases, the actual workings of the phone were still elusive.

While the challenges confront us all, some of the greatest concerns are in education, particularly when it comes to students’ writing.

Today’s technological marvel is generative artificial intelligence (AI), especially Open AI’s ChatGPT. Since its launch on November 30, 2022, we have continued grappling with how—and how not—to use it. While the challenges confront us all, some of the greatest concerns are in education, particularly when it comes to students’ writing. There’s a legitimate fear that ChatGPT can undermine the writing process.

Emergence and Adoption of AI Writing Tools

Programmes like ChatGPT are only the latest in the progression of AI software for editing or generating text. The potential for AI to weaken both writing skills and the motivation to do your own composing has been decades in the making. Spellcheck and now sophisticated grammar and style programmes like Grammarly1 and Microsoft Editor2 are probably the most widely known AI-driven editing tools. AI text-generation developments have included autocomplete for Google searches, Gmail Smart Reply, and predictive texting.

Over the past two years, I have been asking university-age students in both the US and Europe about their attitudes towards using AI tools when they write. Participants in my surveys appreciated AI assistance with spelling and word completion, but they also admitted that

“At some point if you depend on a predictive text [program] you’re going to lose your spelling abilities.”

and

“Spellcheck and AI software … can … be used by people who want to take an easier way out.”

Regarding the use of predictive texting, one respondent mentioned laziness:
“It’s OK when I am feeling particularly lazy.”

while another perceived that predictive texting diminished her writing voice:

“Don’t feel I wrote it.”

A high school student in Britain3 echoed this same concern about individual writing style when describing Grammarly:

“Grammarly can remove students’ artistic voice…. Rather than using their own unique style when writing, Grammarly can strip that away from students by suggesting severe changes to their work.”

In a similar vein, Evan Selinger, a philosopher, worried4 that predictive texting reduces the power of writing as a form of mental activity and personal expression:

“[B]y encouraging us not to think too deeply about our words, predictive technology may subtly change how we interact with each other…. [W]e give others more algorithm and less of ourselves…. [A]utomation … can stop us thinking.”

Writing as a Thinking Process

ChatGPT lessons for education

In literate societies, writing has long been recognised as a way of facilitating thinking.5 Many people have quoted author Flannery O’Conner’s6 comment that “I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.” A host of others, from William Faulkner7 to Joan Didion,8 have also voiced this sentiment. If AI text generation does our writing for us, we diminish opportunities for thinking out problems for ourselves.

One eerie consequence of harnessing programmes like ChatGPT to generate language is that the text is grammatically perfect. A finished product. It turns out that a lack of errors is a sign9 that AI, not a human, probably wrote the words, since even accomplished writers and editors make mistakes. Human writing is a process. We question what we originally wrote, we rewrite, or sometimes start over entirely.

When undertaking school writing assignments, ideally there is ongoing dialogue between teacher and student: Discuss what the student wants to write about. Share and comment on initial drafts. Then it’s time for the student to rethink and revise. In practice, this sequence happens far too infrequently. Teachers often don’t have time to fill a collaborative editorial—and pedagogical —role. Moreover, they might lack interest, necessary skills, or both. Conscientious students sometimes undertake aspects of the process themselves — as professional authors typically do. But the temptation to lean on editing and text generation tools like Grammarly and ChatGPT makes it all too easy for technology to substitute ready-made results for opportunities to think and learn.

The temptation to lean on editing and text generation tools like Grammarly and ChatGPT makes it all too easy for technology to substitute ready-made
results for opportunities to think and learn.

Before the appearance of ChatGPT, an earlier version of the same underlying programme, GPT-3, was already licensed by commercial ventures such as Sudowrite.10 Users enter a phrase or sentence and then ask the software to fill in more words, potentially stimulating the human writer’s creative juices. Yet there’s a slippery slope between collaboration and encroachment. Writer Jennifer Lepp admits11 that as she increasingly relied on Sudowrite, the resulting text

“Didn’t feel like mine anymore. It was very uncomfortable to look back over what I wrote and not really feel connected to the words or ideas.”
Students are even less likely than seasoned writers to recognise where to draw the line between a writing “assist” and letting an AI text generator take over their content and style.

Pragmatic Strategies for Guiding Student Use of ChatGPT

Over the past year, educators, AI mavens, and students have reacted to the new bot in their midst. Teachers and educational researchers have been developing a stream of creative uses of the technology12 to bolster learning. Meanwhile, a whole industry has risen up13 for detecting when AI, not humans, has done the writing. Yet, however crafty the tools become, they remain easy to fool.14 Just ask students15 about their success in gaming the system.

We need a way past the arms race between ChatGPT detection programmes and student circumvention. To this end, I suggest five points for students (and the rest of us) to consider when invoking generative AI as a writing maven.

Effort: How much are you willing to expend when you write?

Writing takes mental effort. Of course, so do many activities we undertake—solving calculus problems, learning the trombone, even deciding which book to read. Psychological theories explain16 that we don’t always need to apply 100 percent of our mental energies to a task. Sometimes, “good enough” is good enough.
It’s understandable wanting to minimise effort in the writing or editing process by conscripting help from AI. As of now, local policies vary widely.17 More confusing still, sometimes they are unarticulated. But where rules exist, writers need to adhere to them.

Trust: Do you trust what AI writes?

We’ve all heard that generative AI can hallucinate. A lawyer learned this lesson18 the hard way by relying on ChatGPT to prepare a brief, which the bot filled with made-up citations. When it comes to AI’s truthfulness, users are well-served by the old dictum, “Trust, but verify.” Plus, beware that AI-based programmes like Microsoft Editor can be wrong19 on points of grammar or word choice.

The hitch is recognising when verification is needed, especially if you don’t know the topic or you’re not confident about your writing skills. Don’t automatically assume the AI programme knows better. Double check information you’re not sure about, and ask someone who’s a good writer to confirm your wording choice.

Writing skills: Does AI improve or weaken them?

Writing is often time-consuming, even painful. Like a teacher with infinite patience, AI stands ready to offer an assist.

Ideally, AI’s writing prowess can be harnessed to improve our own skills—editing text we’ve written, helping us generate new ideas, and maybe even making us better spellers. But there’s another possibility: By letting AI do large chunks of writing and editing for us, we risk losing our own writing abilities or, for younger users, not feeling motivated to develop skills in the first place.

Reducing human skills—not just for writing but in, say, art or argumentation—is one of the biggest challenges20 of today’s AI. What’s more, by maintaining your writing skills, you’re not stuck when there’s no internet connection and an essay is due in the morning.

Writing voice: Does AI compromise your own?

A cascade of AI writing tools – from predictive texting to Grammarly— offer up text completion or “better” ways of saying what we mean. But when we mutely acquiesce, what happens to our own writing voice? In my research involving predictive texting, one university student worried that “maybe it makes me a little too repetitive.”
We all have individual writing voices. Beware of letting AI obliterate yours.

Commitment: How much do you care?

The biggest elephant in the room is commitment. What level do we have for a particular piece of writing? Maybe the stakes are low for routine emails or blog posts. Next up the ladder is writing for which we have more responsibility. Our name is on that plot synopsis we bade AI to draft. Did we bother reading the book to gauge where we agree with what ChatGPT wrote and where we don’t?
But then come even higher rungs of commitment for putting words together. At its best, human writing is a self-discovery process. AI has no self to discover. And, remember as well that writing is ultimately a craft in which we can take pride, whatever our level of expertise. When we cede control to AI, we forgo personal artistry.

Writing is often time-consuming, even painful. Like a teacher with infinite patience, AI stands ready to offer an assist. But AI can also seduce us into minimising effort or trusting it when we shouldn’t. Its smooth prose (that companies paid billions to generate) potentially leads us to believe its skills and voice always surpass our own. It tempts us to forget how empowering it can be to think through a problem with a pen or keyboard at hand, and how satisfying it can feel to find our own perfect wording.

Writing is a profoundly human activity. AI now has a role in the drama, but people need to remain the playwrights.

Indonesia’s Costly Connection

By Ebi Junaidi and Alannah Perry

Sometimes, the biggest hindrances to development are not ones that are easily seen. Indonesia is currently facing a logistical crisis worsened by world events such as COVID-19 and global supply chain issues. This issue has become a highly recognised economic issue, with President Joko Widodo asserting that the government will invest in the logistics industry to help address this problem. But what are the issues that need to be addressed? When discussing handling this logistics issue, it is important first to outline what this means for the everyday Indonesian.

The Issue

Logistics and logistics costs have indeed risen to prominence in domestic politics and the economy in Indonesia. As the world´s largest archipelagic country, the distribution and transport of goods has become one of the major factors in the ability to develop different regions and outreach every area.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Finance in Indonesia, Prof. Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, back in 2002, stated that “the oceans are roads that we don’t need asphalt to build. God has set it ready to allow us to connect over 17,000 islands that we have.” Indeed, transportation via ocean is the cheapest way compared to air or land transportation. Yet, it is widely quoted that the national logistics cost in Indonesia is around 24.6%. For everyday Indonesians, this means that almost a quarter of the price of goods consumed is paid for delivering it to their table. It is indeed very expensive!

To further this discussion, it is important to define what logistics means. In the simplest terms, logistics refers to the coordination and moving of resources to a desired location. These resources can refer to anything from manufactured goods to people. Such resources have a range of ways to be moved, by land movement, maritime services or air travel. In the case of Indonesia, around 70% of the logistics transport, despite its archipelagic nature, uses land transportation.

Logistics also involve the storage and management of these resources. All these have an especially high cost in Indonesia, which, as mentioned above, accounts for 24% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with some of the highest logistics costs in Asia. In comparison, logistics costs account for only 13% of the GDP in Malaysia. These logistics costs are being passed on to the consumer with the price of goods increasing. There is a strong relationship between GDP growth and the growth of the logistics industry, with a 1.259% increase in GDP for every 1% increase in Freight volume.1

The high cost of logistics cannot be attributed to a higher quality, with Indonesia’s lack of critical logistical infrastructure to account for the unequal distribution of resources across the country. The lack of infrastructure, such as roads and shipping ports, has made it difficult to connect Indonesia and has meant that some regions have been left worse off due to the uneven distribution of resources.

The lack of infrastructure, such as roads and shipping ports, has made it difficult to connect Indonesia and has meant that some regions have been left worse off due to the uneven distribution of resources.

The high logistics costs of vital goods such as rice and oil to the eastern regions, combined with the lower incomes of those areas compared to Java have contributed to the lower living standards of Eastern Indonesia in comparison to Western Indonesia. The inefficiency of logistics contributes to the growing inequality within Indonesia, which has concerning social implications for the future of such a diverse and disconnected country. To create stable and long-lasting development, equality in development is vital. However, this can be difficult to achieve with growing levels of inequality. Improving the logistics industry is critical to the development of regions beyond Java, the main island where Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia is. Recent studies have shown that access to seaports has a statistically significant impact on the economic development of non-Java regions.2 This is due to the creation of employment and economic activity due to the maritime recruitment in areas and the ability to reduce the logistical cost of transporting resources needed for development.

Barriers to Logistics

Barrier to Logistics

Why has logistics become such a problem in Indonesia? There is not only one answer to that question, as many factors have created barriers to improving the logistics industry. One of the main issues that are being faced is the rural logistics system. Indonesia faces unique challenges due to its dispersed population and lack of rural infrastructure.3 That lack of easy connectivity to the maritime port for inland communities has led to an increase in the cost of the transportation of vital goods for these areas. Not only is there an added logistical cost from inland transport, but also maritime transport. Therefore, the infrastructure around maritime ports has become a key issue contributing to these logistical costs. In regions such as Tidore, Sula and East Halmahera, studies found that a lack of port infrastructure has resulted in both a decrease in efficiency and an increase in cost.4 Without the equipment to assist with the loading and unloading process of shipments, more labourers are needed for longer hours and more strenuous work. The lack of technical efficiency at these maritime ports is one of the reasons the Eastern Indonesia regions face higher logistic costs than more developed areas of Indonesia. The lack of trading goods to be transported from the east to the west has contributed to the imbalanced cargo. These added logistics costs have decreased the competitiveness of Indonesian logistics industries, putting them at a disadvantage in the global trade sectors.

The government has put effort into easing the problem. Infrastructure development has been indeed the priority for the last nine years of Joko’s government. The “tol laut” or “ocean toll-road” project is also being introduced. In this project, the government provides ships that sail regularly to connect many parts of Indonesia. This, indeed, has helped many Indonesians and enabled price equalisations as well as a connection between West and East Indonesia.

There is currently an effort to revitalise the National Logistics Eco-system (NLE). NLE is expected to play the role of the platform that bridges the interests of the government and the logistics players.

Logistics costs is not only an infrastructure issue, as legislative barriers have added to the cost of moving goods. In addition, maritime shipping faces problems with the requirements placed on getting the licensing for vessel owners. The current port protections, such as national standard compliance, pre-shipment inspections and import approvals, have been seen as “excessive” and have made shipments five times more expensive in comparison to countries like Singapore.5 This has deterred competition from entering the markets, which has stalled innovation in the sector in the long run.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has noted the excessive requirements as one of the reasons for logistics inefficiency and has recommended that they be removed. These changes should be geared towards increasing diversity in the industry and technical development. Regarding land transportation costs, the OECD recommends increasing vehicle inspection to reduce operation costs.

As a middle-income state, Indonesia also faces human capital shortages. The latest Logistics Performance Index, issued by the World Bank, confirmed this finding. The Logistics Competence and Quality of Logistics Service indicator decreased in score from 3.1 to 2.9 (out of 5) and made Indonesia’s world rank for this indicator fall by 21 points, from rank 65 to 44. The lack of well-orchestrated logistics human capital planning has indeed created a challenge. Even in ports with the necessary equipment, there is often a lack of qualified personnel to run it.

With only 29% of the workforce comprised of vocational school graduates, and even less (9.4%) as university graduates, there is a shortage of the human capital needed to develop the logistics industries through research and development.6 This is reflected in Indonesia’s Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth which has remained below 1%. Without the necessary qualified people to operate the equipment needed to improve the efficiency of loading and unloading the resources, improvement to the industry will be stalled. The low level of human capital combined with restrictions through legislation and low levels of infrastructure has continued to contribute to the logistics issue. Due to the problem’s high impact, both the private and public sectors are responding to the issue.

Responses from the Public and Private Sectors

Joko Widodo’s government has acknowledged this issue, with the president commenting, making it a government priority since 2014. In 2021, 47% of the national budget was dedicated to infrastructure projects, including roads and ports.7 The government is also looking for ways to address the inefficiencies in the legal system. There is currently an effort to revitalise the National Logistics Eco-system (NLE). NLE is expected to play the role of the platform that bridges the interests of the government and the logistics players. It aims to simplify the logistic business process and increase the industry’s competition. This reform is projected to save the government 1.5 trillion Rp per year as it will remove much of the red tape that hinders vessel and business ownership and operation (Akhla, 2020). Other reforms include investment in a national single window system to consolidate trade information, making route and processing information more accessible. This system is still under development and not quite to international standards, but it has led to improved information sharing and access of logistic companies to needed data.

The government has also been trying to work with the private sector to improve research and development in the industry (how it has worked with the private sector). Those working in the industry note that there have been positive changes in the ship operations process. One executive noted that although extremely slow, the industry is changing for the better. This, in the end, will create a better and more equitable development in Indonesia. We hope.

Basketball Court Renovation Guide: Transforming Courts with Expert Know-How

The Best Basketball Court In Australia are more than playing shells. They are the hearts of memories, competition, and community. But, the wear and tear of time, weather, and fierce gameplay can take a toll on these hallowed grounds. This guide is your key to restoring basketball courts.

1. Work Out What You Want to Do

Before you start renovating your basketball court, it would be best to determine your renovation goals. Consider what you want to achieve with the renovation. Do you want to improve the court’s appearance, enhance its performance, or both? Identifying your objectives will guide your renovation plan and budget.

2. Identify the Courts and Space

Assess the current condition of your basketball court and the available space. This evaluation will help you decide whether to repair, resurface, or upgrade various court components. It’s a crucial first step in planning your renovation project.

Below are some things you need to check:

Surface and Flooring Options

When renovating a basketball court, the type of surface and flooring you choose is paramount. You can opt for hardwood, concrete, asphalt, or specialized sports court tiles. Consider factors like durability, performance, and maintenance requirements. The surface should be even and well-maintained to assure a safe playing experience.

Painting and Line Markings

Properly marked lines and court graphics are essential for a basketball court. Ensure the court’s lines are clear, well-defined, and meet regulation standards. You may need to repaint or touch up lines to ensure they are accurate and visible during the renovation process.

Hoops and Backboards

Check the condition of your basketball hoops and backboards. Ensure they are in good working order and properly anchored. Depending on your renovation goals, you might consider upgrading to adjustable height hoops or more modern backboard materials for improved performance.

Lighting and Scoreboards

Adequate lighting is critical for night games or indoor courts. During renovation, assess your lighting system for brightness and coverage. Consider energy-efficient LED lighting. Scoreboards add to the playing experience. If you don’t have one, the renovation is an excellent time to install one. Make sure it’s visible from all angles of the court.

3. Get Your Financials in Order

Renovating a basketball court requires careful financial planning. Begin by estimating the costs involved in your renovation project. This might include expenses for resurfacing, new equipment, lighting, or any other upgrades you have in mind.

Set a realistic budget and consider seeking contractors’ quotes to understand better the potential costs involved. It’s also a good idea to allocate some funds for unexpected expenses that might arise during the renovation. Explore financing options, grants, or fundraising to secure the necessary funds for your project.

4. Look for Partnerships

To help cover the costs of renovating a basketball court, consider forming partnerships or seeking sponsorships. Local businesses, sports organizations, or community groups might be interested in supporting your project. Partnering with these entities can provide financial support, materials, or labor.

Additionally, you can explore grant opportunities from government or non-profit organizations that promote community development or sports initiatives. Partnerships and sponsorships help financially and create a sense of community involvement and shared responsibility for the project’s success.

5. Put Together Your Pitch Deck

Creating a compelling pitch deck is crucial when seeking support for your basketball court renovation. This document should outline your project’s goals, budget, and the positive impact it will have on the community. Include detailed plans, designs, and any artist renderings if available.

Highlight the benefits, such as increased community engagement, improved facilities, and potential marketing opportunities for sponsors. Your pitch deck should communicate your passion and vision for the renovation, making it more likely to attract potential donors, sponsors, or partners.

6. Formalize Agreements

Once you’ve secured support and funding, it’s essential to formalize agreements with all relevant parties involved in the renovation. This includes contractors, suppliers, volunteers, or sponsors.

Remember, contracts should outline the scope of work, timelines, payment terms, and any specific responsibilities. Ensure that all agreements are clear, legally sound, and in the best interests of your project.

Legal counsel might be necessary to protect all parties involved and ensure a successful and legally compliant renovation process. Clear agreements will help prevent disputes and misunderstandings, ensuring a smoother renovation experience.

7. Security Considerations

Safety is paramount during a basketball court renovation. Evaluate the potential risks and implement security measures to protect the construction site and those nearby.

Ensure that construction materials are stored safely and construction equipment is well-maintained to prevent accidents. Communicate with the community about the renovation schedule and any safety precautions they should take, such as staying clear of the construction area.

8. Monitoring and Evaluation

Throughout the renovation process, it’s essential to monitor the progress and evaluate the quality of the work. Regular inspections can help identify any issues or deviations from the plan and allow timely corrections. Choosing the Right Outsourcing Partner for Live Chat Support

Customer Service Outsourcing can be a game-changer when you give important tasks to professionals. But picking the right partner is the most important choice because it will determine whether you keep or lose people.

You can use cutting-edge technology and change with the needs of your business when you outsource. With this flexibility, you can make your business more efficient and make customers happier, and it won’t cost you much.

When choosing a partner to outsource customer service, here are some important things to remember. When you outsource your customer service, you don’t just want to save money; you also want to get the most value and ensure your customers are happy.

What’s Your Primary Motivation for Implementing Live Chat?

Before exploring various outsourcing options, you must ascertain the underlying purpose of incorporating live chat into your operations. Unless you have ample time and resources, your interest in live chat likely stems from a genuine business need.

To determine the ideal outsourcing partner for your needs, we must first address the fundamental question: Why do you seek to implement live chat in the first place?

The Significance of Exceptional Customer Support

An organization’s success and potential for growth hinge greatly on the customer’s journey with its product or brand. Exceptional Customer Experience (CX) notably enhances customer retention. Also, it establishes a reliable revenue generation strategy by cultivating unwavering customer loyalty.

It transforms satisfied customers into passionate advocates who extend the reach of your business through positive word-of-mouth. Conversely, negative customer service interactions can inflict severe damage as disgruntled customers may share cautionary tales, dissuading others from engaging with your brand. Consider outsourcing your customer support to ensure the highest level of service excellence.

Key Factors When Selecting Partner for Live Chat Support

Maintaining Brand Consistency

When you engage a live chat support outsourcing provider, they become an integral part of your company. To your customers, it matters little whether the person on the other end of the line is a contractor or an employee. The experience, whether positive or negative, is invariably linked to your company’s name. A subpar encounter can result in lost customers and a tarnished reputation on social media.

Conversely, a positive experience effectively resolving a customer’s issue can foster a long-term relationship. It’s a well-established fact that customers are more inclined to purchase additional products or services from their current provider.

A dependable partner will invest in training, ensuring that outsourced agents embody employees’ roles and prioritize the company’s and customers’ best interests. The ultimate goal of your customer service should be to transform your customers into fervent brand advocates.

Omni-Channel Support

The shift is undeniable: digital interactions are rapidly eclipsing traditional phone-based customer support. Therefore, prioritize those equally proficient in voice and digital communication when seeking a customer service outsourcing partner.

With an increasing number of consumers airing their grievances on social media, it’s imperative to be attuned to the diverse touchpoints your customers may employ. An omnichannel customer experience guarantees that your customers receive exceptional support across various communication channels, including live chat, email, social media, and phone, ensuring their satisfaction.

Relevant Expertise

It is very important to ensure your partner has experience in the same field or business as you. Know that business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) activities are different and need different skills. So, carefully look into a possible vendor’s past work and accomplishments.

Also, think about what the goals of your support center are. Is its main job to provide product and technical help, or must it also make sales and keep customers? Everyone involved in this partnership must clearly know what they want to happen.

Seamless Technological Integration

Ensure that your customer support partner can seamlessly integrate with your customer database, support ticket system, and other mission-critical applications. By having a contact center that harmoniously integrates customer support data, you unlock valuable insights into your customers’ pain points and specific requirements.

Genuine Collaboration

Seek a provider who considers the association a true partnership, transcending a mere contractual arrangement. A genuine customer-service outsourcing partner brings industry expertise and maintains consistency across your business’s service and sales journey.

A bona fide partner invests in aligning with your brand and implements best practices and customer care strategies that cultivate unwavering loyalty.

Shift your focus away from the ‘lowest cost per call’ model. Instead, base your relationship on key metrics, including the quality of interactions, customer satisfaction, and issue resolution. The quality of this partnership will manifest itself in reduced customer churn rates and heightened revenues through well-executed up-selling and cross-selling opportunities.

Maintaining Methods of Quality Control and Supervision

Before outsourcing your customer service, you should check out how they handle quality control and tracking.  It would be best to have a good quality control and tracking system to find places that need improvement and improve service in the long run.

Alignment of Culture and Effective Communication

It’s important to find a customer care rep who believes in the same things you do before you hire them. Check if both companies have similar beliefs and if employees do well in a positive workplace.

Also, make sure the support staff knows what you anticipate from them. This makes things clear and helps build trust.

Security and Data Protection Protocols

Safeguarding data and sensitive information takes precedence when outsourcing, particularly in customer support. Compliance with legal and regulatory security standards is imperative, given the handling of personal and financial data.

Data security measures include securing ISO certification, a recognized third-party endorsement awarded to businesses committed to improving service quality. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) aids companies in optimizing their business processes to enhance growth and profitability.

Additional security measures involve vigilant bandwidth monitoring and deploying skilled IT professionals.

Have the Right Outsourcing Partner

When seeking customer support outsourcing, connect with a provider who is wholly committed to your success. Each customer interaction represents a chance to deliver outstanding support, secure customer retention, drive revenue growth, and propel your brand toward success.

Consistently delivering excellence in every customer interaction is vital for retention and the catalyst that frequently distinguishes market-winning brands from market underachievers.

Ultimate Guide to Wireless Communication

Wireless communication has become integral to this modern world. It revolutionizes how you connect, share information, and conduct business. From smartphones to Wi-Fi networks, this technology has transformed how you live and work. The article is your key to knowing and harnessing the vast world of wireless communication.

What is Wireless Communication?

Wireless communication, like industrial wireless communications, is a technology that allows devices to exchange information. This is without physical connections like wires or cables. Instead, it uses radio waves, microwaves, or other wireless signals to transmit data.

To learn further, here are the basics of wireless communication:

1. Wireless Signals and Waves

These signals are sent from a transmitter, which converts data into a modulated signal. After, it is received by a receiver, which demodulates the signal to retrieve the original information. This process allows devices to communicate wirelessly. Learning how these signals work is essential for grasping wireless communication.

2. Types of Wireless Communication

Knowing the various types of wireless communication and their applications is essential to harness the full potential of wireless technologies. Here are its types:

Radio Waves

Radio waves are electromagnetic radiation used in wireless communication. They are low-frequency, long-wavelength waves that can travel notable distances. Radios, cell phones, and walkie-talkies rely on radio waves to transmit and receive information.

Microwaves

Microwaves have shorter wavelengths. They have higher frequencies than radio waves. It is ideal for high-capacity data transmission. They are commonly used for point-to-point communication. These include satellite links, microwave ovens, and wireless backhaul networks.

Infrared

Infrared (IR) communication uses electromagnetic waves with wavelengths longer than visible light but shorter than microwaves. It’s often used for short-range data exchange. This is between devices, such as remote controls, infrared data ports on computers, and some security systems.

3. Wireless Communication Protocols

Wireless communication protocols govern how data is transmitted and received over wireless networks. They dictate how devices communicate with each other. This ensures data accuracy, security, and efficient transmission. Here are some key wireless communication protocols:

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is commonly used for local area networks. It lets devices like smartphones, laptops, and smart home gadgets connect to the internet and each other without using physical cables. Various versions of Wi-Fi offer diverse speeds and capabilities. This makes it right for a wide range of applications.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication protocol. This is used for linking devices like smartphones, headphones, and speakers. It’s known for its low power consumption, perfect for small, portable devices.

Cellular Networks

Cellular networks are used for long-range wireless communication. They power mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. Different generations of mobile networks, namely 3G, 4G, and 5G, provide distinct speeds and functionalities. These networks allow voice calls, text messaging, and high-speed data connections. With this, you can remain connected no matter where you are.

NFC

NFC allows devices to communicate when placed close together. It’s commonly used for contactless payments. This allows you to tap your smartphone or credit card to transact.

By simply bringing them close, NFC facilitates quick pairing devices, such as smartphones with Bluetooth speakers.

Zigbee

Zigbee is devised for low-power, short-range applications like home automation and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. It helps smart devices to form wireless networks. This is to control lighting, heating, and security systems. Zigbee networks are highly scalable. This makes them suitable for smart homes and buildings.

Advantages of Wireless Communication

Wireless communication offers several advantages that have transformed how you connect and share information. Here are some of the key benefits:

1. Mobility

Wireless communication lets you stay connected while on the move. This is through using a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop. You can access data, make calls, or send messages without being tethered to a specific location. This mobility is essential if you need to work remotely.

2. Convenience

This convenience extends to various aspects of daily life. These include smart home devices that can be controlled remotely to pair wireless headphones with your phone. With that in mind, wireless technology simplifies your tasks. It even improves your quality of life by eliminating the need for physical connections.

3. Cost-Effective

Setting up wireless networks often concerns lower installation costs than wired alternatives. It eliminates the need for extensive cabling and related maintenance.

Besides that, this is instrumental in reducing operational expenses. It enables remote monitoring and management. This particularly benefits businesses and industries where efficient cost management is essential.

4. Rapid Deployment

Wireless technologies can be rapidly enforced. It is when setting up a Wi-Fi network in your home or setting touch in a disaster-stricken area. This agility is crucial for emergency response teams, event organizers, and businesses adapting to changing conditions. Rapid deployment assures that communication and connectivity are available when and where needed.

5. Real-Time Communication

One of the most significant advantages of wireless communication is its ability to provide real-time communication. In various scenarios, especially in business and emergencies, the immediacy of wireless connections is crucial.

Wireless technology ensures that information is transmitted and received in real time. Be it a video conference call with colleagues, monitoring security cameras, or blending first responders during a crisis.

The Evolving Landscape of Wireless Communication

What Is Sugar Momma Dating?

A sugar daddy term is quite popular, but there are also sugar mommas seeking partners. In a nutshell, a sugar momma is a woman of 40–50 years (some people call them cougars) who seeks young partners for intimate pleasures they compensate by providing money. A sugar mama can choose whoever as their sugar baby—it can be a man, a woman, or a non-binary person—everything depends on a person’s specific needs.

Sugar dating with hot mommas can be not only based on physical interaction: often, sugar mamas seek a partner to spend time together doing different activities, including dancing, hiking, swimming, you name it!

What does a sugar mama pay for? Almost everything. Firstly, a sugar momma pays for dates, clothes (if you want them), and holidays. Sugar relationships can also imply providing you with a so-called “salary” per month, which can depend on the income of your potential sugar mama.

Some facts to know about sugar relationships: sugar dating is not a phenomenon of the 21st century. It became popular in the USA at the end of the 19th century. Back then, it was called treating and described as powerful men attracting women with low-paying jobs in exchange for their companionship. Today, both women and men can be sugar parents.

Sugar dating, although it is a form of unconventional relationship, is not legal everywhere. For example, sugaring (another name for sugar dating) is prohibited in Malaysia because it’s considered immoral. Their government even takes action to ban dating sites with sugar daddies and mommies.

Are There Any Age Restrictions in Sugar Mommy Dating?

Although sugar mommas seek younger partners, thinking that it is only like this is rather stereotypical. In fact, even a person of the same age as a sugar momma can become her baby. Sugar momma dating means, in general, that a woman decides to provide for someone in exchange for companionship. Usually, a sugar mama is an older woman because such females have more financial resources to become a sugar parent. It makes them a bit dominant in their character, which impacts their partner’s decision—to opt for a young man to feel this dominance. With an older man, it would be a bit complicated.

However, there is, indeed, a restriction: people younger than 18 can’t even register at sugar mommy websites. Even if you are under this age and ready to find a sugar momma and be her cub, you won’t be able to use reliable platforms. And if you try to find a sugar mama offline, from her side, stepping into a relationship with you will have legal consequences as it’s statutory rape.

How to Choose the Sugar Momma Dating Site or App?

It’s worth saying that sometimes, finding really good sugar momma dating sites can be a challenge. The main reason is that there are fraudulent individuals who use naïve and desperate souls to make money on them. Thus, they can hire bots in their catalogs of sugar mamas or babies, who will keep texting with you to make you spend more on their services. That’s why, to find a trustworthy site for sugar momma relationships, follow these tips:

  1. Check the website on hidden services by reading the terms of use and privacy policy attentively
  2. Analyze the overall ratings of sugar momma dating websites on SimilarWeb or review sources
  3. Read the reviews that past clients could leave about the site.

However, you should be careful with the last tip: usually, people leave negative comments which can be misleading and create a false impression about a site. This is not surprising: human psychology is designed to leave negative reviews more often than positive ones (according to the study, 95% of users are most likely to share a bad experience).

Is It Possible to Find a Free Site for Sugar Momma Dating?

Free sugar momma dating sites are a real thing, although they are not popular. But are they reliable and effective? We’d rather say no. Free sugar mama dating sites may provide a catalog of mommies and babies to chat with, but they often have hidden fees or exploit scam schemes to steal your money.

We decided to do our own research and downloaded one of the free sugar momma dating apps. Everything went well at first: a free registration, which asks to mention only several basic details, like name, email, sex, and date of birth. Then, when we started filling out the profile, the dating site asked us to let it access the device to “provide you with a more extensive list of features adopted for the device.” No online dating site or app should not ask for such information.

“But why are reliable sources always paid? Some people looking for such relationships might not be financially able to pay for membership.”

Trustworthy sources that offer to find potential sugar mamas need to ensure these mamas (and cubs, too) are authentic. Usually, such companies hire people to monitor user’s profiles to identify fake ones, and they need to pay for this service. Also, a good sugar dating website will invest in a well-structured interface, marketing, and content analysis— to do all of this, you need to hire specialists who will ask for payment. Moreover, you have to update your page occasionally to preserve your website’s high Google ranking.

The best sugar momma websites do it and, consequently, will ask you to invest for their help.

Benefits of Sugar Momma Dating

Sugar dating with older women is an experience that can offer you a lot of perks (of course, if you are ready to immerse yourself in a cub life).

You can be open

Sugar relationships are good in that way that they provide you with a safe space for being yourself: both you and your sugar mama know what you want from this relationship and what you need to give back to make it work.

You get what you desire

If you are a sugar baby looking for a sugar momma, you will enjoy the financial support she provides. Do you need to pay rent? Do you need to pay for a student fee? You name it. Also, many sugar mamas open their babies to the world of a luxurious life. They can take you on a holiday, buy you stuff you want, and so on.

If you are a sugar mama seeking a companion, you can make your wishes come true either by spending time together like he is your husband/wife or having wild nights.

You can be a mentor or get a mentorship

To some extent, a sugar mama is really like a mama who can teach you how to live your life, which can be applied to all levels: intimacy skills, communication, or even running a business. If you are a sugar momma, you can become a mentor for somebody if teaching others is your hidden passion.

You don’t have that many responsibilities as traditional couples

Surely, sugar dating implies some sort of obligation because it is an agreement with rules both sides should follow. However, such a commitment is focused on the present moment more. You don’t have to worry about tomorrow because you are not emotionally attracted to your mommy/baby.

Can You Find a Serious Relationship on Sugar Momma Sites?

“But does it mean that my relationship with a sugar momma won’t grow into anything serious based on the last benefit from the previous paragraph?”

Often, sugar mama apps state what type of relationship they fit best for, which can be both short and long-term commitments. That’s why when you find a sugar momma and fall in love with her, you have all chances of conquering her heart and making a happy romantic union with her unless she states that she never considers the development of sugar dating relationships into a more serious commitment. Even more, often, a sugar mama falls in love first because women tend to get attached quickly.

Are There Any Risks When Looking for a Sugar Mama?

There are several major risks you can face when trying sugar relationships.

The first is that a sugar mom can begin treating you badly. Abusive or toxic attitudes are not very common among sugar mammas. Still, it’s possible to get trapped in such a relationship. Moreover, there is such a thing as human trafficking—and only the best sugar momma dating sites can ensure a person registered is not a part of such a criminal group, since the profiles on such platforms are verified.

Another risk is disappointment. Either you are a cub who wants to find a sugar mama or a cougar—when you start dating, you can realize it’s not what you want. It’s completely normal, but if you have always tried traditional relationships and switched to sugar dating, you may feel out of place.

Last but not least: fraudulent sugar momma apps and sites. We have already uncovered how to avoid scam sugar momma websites and provided a list of sources that can offer you a secure space to start sugar dating. How to Find a Sugar Mommy?

The very first thing you have to do to start your sugar momma online dating is register on a reliable website customized for this form of relationship. Which sugar momma app/site to choose? Check the rating list of the most popular sugar dating sites shown today, analyze their top features and pricing, and make your choice.

Now, imagine you are already registered on such a dating platform and want to start chatting with older women. How to do the first step correctly? Here are some tips:

  • Make a good intro by telling her a compliment or an elegant joke. But remember, they should not be about her age. For instance, “You look nice for your age” is much worse than “You have very beautiful pictures, lady.”
  • When approaching sugar mommies, be open about your intentions, but don’t put forward your conditions immediately and don’t try to “sell” yourself. It will sound like a trade, and sugar mommas need partners, not sales agents. Sugar ladies want to feel admired, and such “business approach” won’t let your woman feel the intimacy she seeks.
  • Also, be careful when discussing a topic of intimacy—not all sugar moms want physical connection only. The companionship they seek can take different forms: romantic dates, doing sports together, traveling to nice places, etc. It’s better to simply ask what exactly she seeks in a younger lover and define for yourself if you can provide what she needs.
  • Sugar mommas are like ordinary women—they also want to have good conversations, talking about hobbies and discussing shared topics. Thus, ask her about her childhood, favorite music genre and songs, today’s mood, etc. If you feel the woman is interested in you, you can proceed by asking her questions about why she decided to be sugar momma, what is her dream date, or what things she wants to have in a relationship with you.
  • Don’t expect your sugar momma to be like your real Maman. Although the term includes the word “momma,” it doesn’t mean these rich women seek sons to provide for them like for little kids. Usually, a sugar momma states what she can give you for your companionship. It can be holidays, fees, or clothes. However, when you need to buy cereal and bread for breakfast—asking a sugar mama to do it will be too much.

Medical Cannabis: A Guide to Plant-Based Therapies and Wellness Benefits

Medical cannabis depicts an extreme process to healthcare and well-being. It surveys traditional treatments through the natural qualities of the cannabis plant.

As legalization grows, more people want to know about its healing prospects. This article allows you to explore the world of medical cannabis.

What Is Medical Cannabis?

Medical Cannabis in Sydney, often known simply as medical marijuana, is a specific form of the cannabis plant used for medical purposes. Unlike recreational marijuana, medical cannabis treats diverse medical conditions and symptoms. It is acknowledged and legalized in many parts of the world for its potential therapeutic benefits.

The two main compounds in the cannabis plant that have garnered attention are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). These compounds are accountable for many plant effects and medical applications. THC is primarily known for its psychoactive properties, while CBD is non-psychoactive and has various potential health benefits.

Medical Conditions Treated with Medical Cannabis

While it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional before using medical cannabis, here are some of the medical conditions and symptoms that medical cannabis may be used to treat:

Pain Management

Medical cannabis is often used to manage chronic pain conditions, lessening individuals dealing with issues such as arthritis, neuropathy, and migraines. The active compounds in cannabis, notably THC and CBD, interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, potentially reducing pain perception and inflammation.

This makes it a valuable option for those who have not found effective pain relief with traditional medications. When used under medical supervision, cannabis can present an alternative for long-term pain management.

Epilepsy and Seizures

Specifically strains rich in CBD (cannabidiol), this plant has effectively reduced the frequency and severity of seizures in individuals with epilepsy. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis, and it appears to have anticonvulsant properties.

In some cases, medical cannabis has been a game-changer for patients who do not respond well to traditional anti-epileptic drugs. Working closely with healthcare professionals to determine the appropriate strain, dosage, and administration method for optimal seizure management is important.

Cancer-Related Symptoms

Medical cannabis is increasingly used to alleviate the distressing symptoms often associated with cancer and cancer treatments. These symptoms can include pain, nausea, and vomiting, which are side effects of chemotherapy.

The compounds in cannabis, such as THC and CBD, may relieve pain perception, stimulate appetite, and manage nausea. This can greatly improve the quality of life for cancer patients and help them better endure their treatments.

Alzheimer’s Disease

While research is ongoing, certain compounds in cannabis may have a neuroprotective effect and could be beneficial in managing the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s is characterized by cognitive decline and neuroinflammation, and cannabinoids found in cannabis may help reduce inflammation and slow the degeneration of brain cells.

Medical cannabis may also assist in improving sleep patterns and managing behavioral symptoms, such as agitation and aggression, often seen in Alzheimer’s patients.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

ALS, often called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Medical cannabis may relieve ALS patients by helping manage symptoms like muscle spasticity, pain, and loss of appetite. Some suggest that specific cannabinoids in cannabis may slow down the progression of the disease and improve quality of life.

HIV/AIDS

Individuals living with HIV/AIDS often face symptoms like pain, nausea, and loss of appetite, whether due to the virus or antiretroviral medications’ side effects. Medical cannabis can help alleviate these symptoms and improve overall well-being. It’s particularly valuable in stimulating appetite and preventing weight loss, which is common in those with HIV/AIDS.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye condition characterized by increased intraocular pressure that can lead to optic nerve damage and vision loss. Medical cannabis, particularly its capacity to reduce intraocular pressure, is explored as a potential treatment for glaucoma. While it may provide temporary relief, it’s usually used as an adjunct therapy alongside other traditional treatments.

Types of Medical Cannabis Products

Medical cannabis is available in various forms to accommodate patient needs and preferences. These types include:

Dried Flowers (buds)

These are the actual cannabis plant buds, typically in their raw form. They can be smoked in a joint or pipe or vaporized. Smoking provides rapid relief, making it suitable for chronic pain or nausea. It’s a traditional method but not the healthiest due to the inhalation of smoke.

Oils and Tinctures

Cannabis extracts are dissolved in oil or alcohol to create tinctures. Patients can consume them sublingually (under the tongue) for a faster onset or mix them with food and beverages. This method allows for precise dosing and is suitable for those who prefer not to smoke.

Edibles

Edibles are cannabis-infused food products like brownies, gummies, or beverages. They offer a discreet and longer-lasting way to consume medical cannabis. Edibles take longer to kick in (usually about 30-60 minutes), but their effects can last several hours. This is a popular choice for patients who want to avoid smoking. However, dosing can be tricky, so caution is necessary to avoid overconsumption.

Be a Responsible User

As you explore the world of medical cannabis and its numerous wellness benefits, you must underscore the importance of being a responsible user. With great therapeutic power comes a significant responsibility. Adhere to local laws and regulations, consult with healthcare professionals, and make informed choices regarding strain selection, dosages, and consumption methods.

The Evolution of Fintech

The world of financial services has always been a hub of innovation, continually adapting with the times and pushing boundaries. Amidst ongoing advancement, one trailblazing sector is the one known as Fintech. This revolutionary blend of finance and technology is reshaping the delivery and design of traditional financial products and services. In this article, we will examine the intriguing journey of Fintech, tracing its origins and looking at its future.

What is Fintech?

Let’s demystify what Fintech is before we delve into its evolution. A combination of the words financial technology, Fintech operates at the intersection of financial services and tech. It leverages innovative tech tools to enhance and automate the delivery of financial products.

From processing payments through mobile devices, transferring funds quickly across borders, managing investments, applying for loans or even using cryptocurrency for transactions, Fintech caters to both businesses and consumers’ needs.

Its primary objective is simple yet profound: to optimize financial operations and make them convenient for end-users. Simply put, Fintech aims to deliver a seamless experience while navigating layers of personal finance matters, retail banking, fundraising and other domains in the vast realm of economics. It’s worth noting how diverse financial technology can be. While some focus on backend systems designed to support established institutions like banks or insurance firms, others aim directly at enhancing consumer services by offering new ways to budget or invest money.

Though relatively new in comparison with established industries like banking or insurance, Fintech’s swift, genre-defining innovations have made significant strides forward in revolutionizing our perceptions of contemporary transactions.

The History of Fintech

The history of Fintech begins with how people started to do banking. From transactions once noted with pens and ink in ledgers, we now have digital processes that can take a second or even less.

Fintech 1.0 (1886 – 1967)

The first wave of reform in finance, known as Fintech 1.0, emerged in the 19th century. The advent of telegraph systems marked a milestone in communication and laid the foundation for today’s technology-driven society.

During this time, Western Union took a significant step towards the payment methods we have today with money transfers via telegram. As innovation continued, we reached 1950 and another milestone as Diners Club launched its charge card.

It was during this period that Wall Street began embracing Fintech to improve efficiency and accuracy. Do you remember UNIVAC I? This was a computer created by Unisys Corporation that allowed businesses to handle large amounts of data. This propelled us into the era of computer-aided financial services.

Fintech 2.0 (1967 – 2008)

Telecom services played a role in transitioning banking from local to global. This era saw the rise of ATM machines with Barclays introducing their cash dispenser in London in June 1967. This triggered a revolution that made banking services available beyond operating hours and contributed significantly to customer convenience.

During this time two notable breakthroughs emerged. These were the SWIFT code system used globally for messaging between institutions, and the Chip and PIN security system designed to protect credit card users from fraudulent activities.

Looking back at the late ’90s we saw the emergence of business models that leveraged technological advancements. One notable example is PayPal, which played a role in paving the way for a wide range of e-commerce platforms on the internet.

Fintech 3.0 (2008 – now)

Fast forward to Fintech 3.0, also known as “the age of apps”. This phase has been characterized by tighter regulations following the collapse of Lehman Brothers. These regulations led to an increase in operating costs for banks resulting in a significant profit squeeze, just when disruptive technologies were ready to flourish.

During this period we witnessed the adoption of innovations such as electronic wallets and the rise of cryptocurrencies with Bitcoin’s inception in mid-2010. It became evident that blockchain technology held potential to transform aspects of finance.

Fintech 3.5

The era of Fintech 3.5 focuses on advanced implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) machine learning developments like robo-advisors’ personalized product offerings and integrating data analytics that provide insights for better decision-making.

Then there’s the fifth-generation wireless network with 5G offering exciting speed, new experiences, and security improvements that are having broad impacts on the industry and digital transformation.

David Luck, CEO and Founder of business credit card provider Capital On Tap:

“One of the most remarkable aspects highlighted is how fintech has democratized financial access.
