In her trainer role at BPW and with her previous experience as a Special Ed Teacher, Katie Brisley-Logue shares what has inspired her most when working with students who have different needs or are neuro-diverse: “My students have been my greatest teachers both in the classroom and in life! They have taught me patience and compassion and the importance of non-judgmental observation in helping them excel.

Once I began providing a safe space for their individual self-expression and interpretation of brain breaks instead of having specific expectations and trying to control their responses, I began to notice how students naturally adapted to the activities. So I took it one step further and asked individual students to lead me and the whole class in a brain break. When the student leading (in their own unique way) experienced us all following them, their confidence soared, and the level of engagement, fun, and positivity in the classroom achieved a level I could never have engineered.

It has been a great practice for me to let go of my expectations and instead focus on creating a space for the magic to naturally arise from my students. It brings me to happy tears just thinking about it.”
